Study – Concentrate better
Psychologists say we only use 10% of our mental potential. Use more of yours and give yourself an edge.
Studies show TM gives you a greater ability to concentrate, to take in and make sense of your experiences. This helps with all areas of academic study.
It’s easier to concentrate when your mind is clear. Research studies show TM increases your ability to take in and absorb information as well as to focus. It was previously thought that these abilities did not improve after early adulthood.
Master degree engineering students who learned the Maharishi Transcendental Meditation program showed improved performance on their standard examinations after six months, compared with randomly assigned controls.
Other educational research has shown that TM develops intelligence and creativity, increases brain integration in college students; promotes cognitive and self development; increases academic achievement in school, university, and postgraduate students.
It improves perception and mind-body co-ordination; decreases negative school behaviour in adolescents; and reduces symptoms of ADHD.

Here’s what some student meditators say about how TM has helped them:
“I have better concentration for longer periods”
“I feel I have more motivation, things seem less of an effort. I have better concentration for longer periods and generally I have a clearer head and am far less stressed. Spiritually, I feel stronger and far more alive.
“Also, the love and compassion for the people close to me has grown and been enhanced. It seems to be returned almost twice as much. So now that I don’t have to worry about psoriasis, I am learning how to enjoy my life.”
– Frances Donald, student, Edinburgh.
“Transcendental Meditation cleanses my thought patterns”
“On a daily basis, I juggle the demands of classes in two different programs, and additionally do my best to remain physically active, to stay involved with friends and family, to volunteer in the community, and to create post-grad school career opportunities. Thank goodness I’m meditating!
“Transcendental Meditation cleanses my thought patterns, enabling preparedness for whatever lay in store. It also offers an opportunity for me to engage with my spiritual, holistic nature in a natural, uncomplicated way, enriching all areas of my life.
“Transcendental Meditation has particularly helped me have more flow in my speech. I have always been plagued by being overly self-conscious of what I say. Since I started TM, this neurosis has almost entirely disappeared and I find myself speaking from my inner-core with more ease and natural rhythm. What a relief!”
– David Stonehill, MBA and MA in International Development student.
“I don’t feel as overwhelmed”
“I’m just as busy as I was last semester, but since I have been practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique, I don’t feel as overwhelmed as I did then. It’s easier to stay organized. I’m more efficient, staying on top of things—both in the big picture and keeping track of the details.
“I am much happier and freer to take on more things. Also when I make mistakes I’m better able to deal with them practically and emotionally, simply taking corrective steps without beating myself up. My relationships with others are better because my relationship with myself is better.”
– Anne Barton-Veenkant, university student.
