Stress – Can’t focus clearly?

Concentrate better – and get more done

“Research shows TM helps you to take in and understand more information, think more clearly, and improves your memory.” Dr Fred Travis.

TM has been shown by studies to increase your ability to take in and absorb information as well as to focus.

This improvement in TM meditators is remarkable because it was previously thought that these abilities did not improve after early adulthood.*

How can TM help me focus?

The deep restfulness of TM brings calmness to mind and body. This allows distractions to become less dominant, so you can think more clearly.

It’s a bit like turning the volume down on a radio until it is still on but not making any noise. TM calms the mind, dissolving excess mental ‘noise’, and this lasts afterwards leaving the mind free to focus on and deal with whatever needs doing.

Research on TM and focus

Scientific studies show that TM improves focus and your ability to think clearly. The results show that practising TM helps you to develop greater field independence. This improvement is remarkable because it was previously thought that these basic perceptual abilities do not improve beyond early adulthood.

Here’s how some meditators describe their experience of TM:

“Focus comes from stillness”

“Transcendental Meditation promotes stillness—and when you are still is the only time you can think, the only time you can focus.

When you have distractions and noise in your mind, you can’t comprehend properly and you can’t do your job.

Comprehension comes from stillness, focus comes from stillness, and TM is the practice of touching that stillness for a few minutes twice a day.”

Russell Simmons, Co-founder of the pioneering hip-hop label Def Jam, a founder of Russell Simmons Music Group, and the creator of the clothing fashion line Phat Farm.

“It’s brought me inner stillness and peace”

“I meditate twice a day. It’s brought me inner stillness and peace, clarity of mind and much sharper intuition.

“I think I look 10 years younger than 35 and I believe that’s due to TM.”

Jill Greenacre, television actress.

Is there any scientific evidence for this?

Scientific studies show that TM improves focus and your ability to think clearly. The following study is of ‘Field independence’.

Field independence tests your ability to take in and make sense of experiences, your ability to think clearly, your memory, and your ability to maintain a clear head in confusing situations.

The results show that practising TM helps you to develop greater field independence. This improvement is remarkable because it was previously thought that these basic perceptual abilities do not improve beyond early adulthood.
